Skin Prep for Makeup Application

Skin prep is essential for a flawless makeup application! Remember, makeup sits on top of your skin—so healthy, hydrated skin makes all the difference.

Stay consistant with your skin care routine. I also recommend doing a gentle exfoliation 1–2 days before your appointment to remove any dry or dead skin. On the day of your appointment, please arrive with a clean face. Moisturizer is perfectly fine to apply beforehand to keep your skin hydrated.

Hair Prep for Hair Styling

Please arrive with clean, dry hair for your appointment. If you have wavy or curly hair, I recommend blow-drying it smooth—unless you plan to wear it curly.

For best results, wash your hair either the night before or the morning of your appointment. Avoid using heavy products such as oils, leave-in conditioners, or styling creams, as they can affect how well your hair holds the style. Please also avoid using a flat iron before your appointment, as we find that curls don’t hold as well on hair that has been straightened with a flat iron.

Prepping your Skin - Basic Skincare Routine

Start at least 3-6 months before your wedding/special event for best results

Daily Routine

Morning:

  1. Cleanser – Use a gentle cleanser suited to your skin type.

  2. Toner (optional) – Helps balance skin and prep it for products.

  3. Serum – Brightening serums with Vitamin C help even tone and add glow.

  4. Moisturizer – Hydrate with a lightweight, non-greasy moisturizer.

  5. Sunscreen – Wear SPF 30+ daily, even on cloudy days.

Evening:

  1. Cleanser – Double cleanse if wearing makeup or sunscreen.

  2. Toner (optional).

  3. Treatment/Serum – Use targeted treatments (like retinol, AHAs, or calming serums) based on your skin needs.

  4. Moisturizer – A richer cream at night helps lock in hydration.

Weekly Add-Ons

  • Exfoliate 1–2 times a week to remove dead skin and boost radiance.

  • Hydrating or Clarifying Mask once a week for extra nourishment or oil control.

General Tips

  • Stay consistent and introduce new products gradually.

  • Don’t try new skincare within 2 weeks of the wedding to avoid any unexpected reactions.

  • Stay hydrated and eat a balanced diet—skin reflects internal health.

  • Book facials monthly if possible (avoid within 5 days of the wedding).

FAQs Regarding other beauty considerations

Spray Tan?

If you’re considering a spray for your wedding, I recommend scheduling around your makeup trial date. This way, you can see how your tan complements your makeup.

Eyebrow Shaping ( wax, threading, etc)?

I recommend having your eyebrows done 2-3 days before your appointment/wedding day. My personal favorite removal method for eyebrows is threading but it’s all about what you feel the most comfortable with.

Eyelash Extensions?

All makeup applications include lash strip application but some clients prefer the eyelash extensions look. If you’re interested in eyelash extensions I highly recommend trying them a couple months before your wedding if you’ve never had them done. If you decide to go for them, be sure to follow your lash stylist’s recommendation to maintain healthy lashes. If you have sensitive eyes, I would just opt for strip lashes, as we can choose a style that fits more comfortably.
